Federal Skilled Trades Program
FST rewards certified tradespeople with Canadian job offers or certificates of qualification. Language floors and proof of funds rules differ from FSW — we verify the details for your trade.
Overview
Designed for trades, not desk jobs
FST exists for occupations that are typically hands-on — construction, industrial, equipment operation, and certain supervisory roles within those groups.
Certificate of qualification
Some clients qualify through a regulatory exam pathway instead of stacking two one-year offers. Provincial bodies set trades assessment rules.
Language
FST uses lower minimum CLB in some skills than FSW but still requires proof across reading, writing, listening, and speaking — we schedule tests strategically.
How we can help
Trade proof
Apprenticeship records, licences, and employer letters that describe hands-on duties — not office-only work mislabeled as a trade.
CoQ route
Provincial regulatory bodies issue certificates of qualification — we map timelines and exams.
Offers
Employer letters must show full-time intent for required duration and LMIA where applicable.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Red Seal mandatory?
Not always; requirements depend on province and trade. We follow the regulator’s pathway for your case.
Can part-time trade work qualify?
Generally FST requires full-time equivalent within IRCC parameters — we review your hours pattern.
Do I need an LMIA for every offer?
Often yes for eligible job offers unless another valid exemption applies — we do not guess on compliance.
